Storyteller. Advocate. Artist.
The Earth is full of stories, and Justine Vandenberg is here to tell them.
"There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention to the story."
-Linda Hogan
Justine is a writer, poet, photographer, and environmental health professional based in the Midwestern U.S.
Passionate about the intertwined health of ecological and human communities alike, and inspired by the footsteps of Rachel Carson, Justine finds her niche in the intersections between science, communication, and art.
Science
Graduating from DePauw University with a B.A. in Global Environmental Health and Sustainability, Justine specializes in Environmental Public Health. She is equipped with fundamental proficiency in the environmental sciences, epidemiology, and environmental justice.
Communication
Justine’s studies include a concentrated emphasis in English Writing and Storytelling, where she has worked to hone her lifelong passions for writing. Her career interests have allowed her to specialize in global health communication and science literacy. Science and research are important, but ultimately useless without an effective communicator.
Art
An artist at heart, Justine’s poetry, photography, and creative writing reflect her passion for the Earth as a source of life, and her desire to give voice to all human and non-human life alike experiencing injustice. Justine believes in the power of artistic storytelling as a powerful conduit of connection that can reach people most effectively.
